I know they identified the gene responsible, has anyone heard whether they are any closer to finding a genetic “cure” to fix the gene responsible, or stop men who have it from going bald?

A genetic marker has been discovered, the "G" variant on the androgen receptor, but it doesn’t guarantee that a man will go bald, only that he has a higher likelihood due to a genetic susceptibility to DHT related hair loss. For men that have this gene expression, typically using a DHT blocker (e.g. Procerin or Propecia) can help to control premature hair loss, though not actually "cure" it.

Yes the gene has been found but no cure yet.

If it is your genome, then it doesn’t matter what you do. You can fight it, but it will be an uphill battle.

None that I know of, and if they had, the world would know, it’s pretty much the holy grail of money making, the amount of money balding men are willing to pay for the hope of getting hair back is ridiculous. However, if they have identified the gene, then there is no real reason that gene therapy in the future can’t fix the problem, and in countries or states where it’s legal, they could easily screen children for it now. So in the future i’m sure it will be possible, but at the moment I don’t know of it happening.

No, and who cares? A lot of guys go bald. It is natural. Embrace it :)

Male pattern baldness is due to your Testosterone converting to Dihydrotestosterone. Yes, this can be a genetic issue, but if your genes say make the conversion and you are eating lots of OAT GRASS, it won’t happen because the OAT GRASS prevents the conversion from happening. Scientist are not as smart as nature by any means and in actuality generally screw things up pretty badly. Just look at the genetic engineering that is going on. It is failing miserably. Genetics plays a very small part in this issue. Seems like everyone is hung up on eating WHEAT GRASS, but it is the OAT GRASS that prevents male pattern baldness.

      good luck to you

Now that the gene has been isolated, they could indeed modify a pre-fertilized egg, but that would need to be done "in vitro", followed by artificial insemination. I believe that the replacement gene would need to be harvested from a donor egg, supplied by a woman who wasn’t related. I don’t think many would-be parents would risk the uncertainty of the procedure, or outcome, just to ensure their child didn’t follow the trait, in his mother’s family, of early baldness. It would be a one-off solution too, because it wouldn’t affect the hair growth pattern of his own future offspring.
