The cat has not been seen scratching or biting her tail. We just moved from an apartment to a house, which is when this problem started happening. There is a cat door between the garage and the living room.

My dog had this and it was an allergic reaction to fleas. He would get it just about once a year no matter what we did.
If possible get your cat to a vet and they will give you something you can put on your cat to both kill the fleas as well as to take care of the skin problem. You may also need to fumigate the house with a flea fogger or similar product.

Two things Mange and less serious, Hot Spots, a allergic reaction 2 fleas. treat ur cat with Frontline spay and Capstar. Capstra is 1 tablet 4 a few bucks kills all fleas with in 30 minutes. Frontline spray kills and prevents fleas its like 30 dollars but worth it, it will last for ever.

Either you cat is having an allergic reaction to something. Or which is very common in cats is ring worm (the fungus.) so if i was you i would take your cat to the vet.
